Sorry Jesse, it looks like you’re not going to slip the submerged cell phone past the Nextel folks.  Cell phones do not like toilets!

Get On Board With Firefox … Whoo - Whoo!

Want to get rid of 90% of web annoyances in one swipe? Get FireFox. Most of the spyware you get while surfing the net can be attributed to a feature in Internet Explorer called “ActiveX.” This well intended IE component is often exploited by malicious web sites to download and install spyware on your computer.

Another great thing about Firefox is its flexibility. You can add functionality by installing small add-on programs called extensions.

  • Adblock - Blocks banners and other types of graphical advertisements on web sites
  • IE Tab - Some websites are specifically built for Internet Explorer. This opens a new tab of Internet Explorer within Firefox. Very Handy.
  • Gmail Notifier - A good replacement for Google’s notifier, this extension adds a statusbar item showing if you have new email
  • Nuke Anything - Something on a website bothering you? Right click it, then select remove. It’s gone!
  • Forecast Fox - Local weather and radar in your statusbar.

The Ultimate Google Command List

Did you know you can search for any phone number with just [phonebook: name here], or can find the weather in any city with just [weather: city name]? Try out the filetype: command with mp3 or avi and see what you get.

Site Search: Trying to find a specific document on a website? Try site: search term. I use this one to find technical documents on Cisco and HP sites. If I’m looking for Cisco 6500 Firewall Service Module power consumption, I would use this: site:www.cisco.com 6500 FWSM power usage. I’ve found that it works better than the search feature offered on the original web site.

Phone Directory: phone: First-Name, Last Name, State or phone: First-Name, Last-Name, ZIP. For example: In Neil Bauman’s Cease and Desist email to ytmnd.com’s owner, he included his office phone number. Reverse lookup of the area code proves the number to originate in New York. Armed with this information we Google this: phone: Neil, Bauman, NY. Oops, it’s his home phone number and address. A search on maps.google.com gives you a high-res satellite photo of his house. Scary.
